Sattu Parantha

The process of preparing Sattu is ancient and is popular over a wide area of North India, particularly Bihar state. It is prepared by dry roasting Bengal grams. The traditional way of preparing Sattu involves the use of an iron vessel in which the grams are roasted in sand. Afterwards they are sieved and then ground to a fine flour.

It is one of the healthiest food on earth, and must try this Sattu prantha recipe that I’m about to share with you all. It’s packed with nutrients and is quite delicious. Tangy enough to tantalize your taste buds and is a wholesome meal. It can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It has a tendency to make the throat go dry, so serve it hot with baingan/eggplant bharta, curd, chutney, pickle or sauce. Sattu can be easily available at any Indian grocery store. However if you cannot get it near your house, you can easily prepare it at home by grinding roasted chana daal/bengal gram to a fine powder.

So let’s gather our ingredients 🙂

Let us begin with step by step process for easy execution.

  1. We will start with the preparation of the filling for this delicious tangy parantha. Mix all the ingredients mentioned in the stuffing section with sattu. Add one or two tablespoon water to make the stuffing moist, so that it’s easy to bind. You can do a small test by closing the fist with the stuffing and see if it stays in the place. Adjust the salt and other spices as per your taste palate.

  2. Now we will prepare the dough. In a large mixing bowl, add the measured amount of wheat flour and salt. Mix them thoroughly together, and then add ghee/clarified butter- mix well. Make a dent in the center of the flour, pour a little water at a time, gather them together. Use your fist and knuckles to push and stretch the dough and knead it to a pizza dough consistency. We need a firm dough, a soft dough might be difficult to manage. 20170411_170405
  3. Going further to the next step, divide the dough into small portions about the size of a lemon, and shape them round. On a lightly flour dusted surface, take one ball, dip it into the flour and roll it using a rolling pin into a small circle. We do this to avoid the dough from sticking to the surface.
  4. Place one or two spoonful of the sattu stuffing at the center of the rolled out dough. Bring the edges together to enfold the filling to form a smooth round ball and pinch off the excess dough, if necessary. Then, roll out nice and round paratha, about 5 1/2” to 6” in diameter. You can use extra flour while rolling the dough. However, use as little as required.
  5. Heat a tawa or a cast iron griddle/flat pan over medium flame/heat. Make sure the pan is evenly hot before you place the parantha. Cook the parantha evenly from both sides while applying oil or ghee/clarified butter on the parantha and the sides, to a golden brown color. One or two tablespoon of ghee should be more than enough or just spray to a coating for healthier option. Gently press the edges and top of the parantha with a flat spatula until parantha puffs up. This might take a little practice.20170411_190657

Serve it hot with baingan ka bharta, curd, chutney, pickle or sauce.20170411_192529

P.S. It’s a super food and helps with obesity, constipation, high cholesterol, constipation and lots of other stomach disorders. I can share a drink recipe on demand.

Wonder Hair: Argan Oil Hair Pack

Hey girls and guys 🙂

How are you doing??

To treat my heavily damaged, frizzy and brittle hair due to chemical treatments, I’ve been trying DIY treatments at home, scared to go to the salon again. Oiling, mixing different oils, using hair packs, I have tried them all. However, this particular oil hair pack suited me so well, making my hair feel like it I just took a hair spa; smooth like butter, couldn’t feel the frizz and repeated use improved the texture and reduced hairfall.

I’m going to share this magic recipe with you, the easiest recipe with just 3 ingredients.

2 tablespoons coconut oil (I recommend using extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil for all purposes)

2 teaspoons argan oil (Buy it here – Redolence)

3-4 drops of lavender essential oil (optional – I love it when my hair smell nice) (Buy it here – Redolence)

Melt the coconut oil using a double boiler, and mix in all the other oils. It will be a nice amber green color. Apply in on the length of your hair, and a little on the scalp too. I suggest covering it with a shower cap leaving it for the night, to help retain all the oils and let them work!

Argan Hair Pack

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo in the morning, and voila! You have your own home spa with the simplest ingredients and no fuss method.

And the best part about this pack, you can use it on your skin. It hydrates and moisturizes you skin and has anti ageing properties!

For hair loss and dandruff, slightly tweak this recipe – add peppermint and tea tree essential oils. However, don’t keep this oil pack for more than half an hour. Use it regularly, about twice a week, for a month and see the difference!

Let me know if these packs worked for you!

A Bed of Roses: Redolence Wheat Germ Rose Soap Review

Hey girls,

More reviews of organic products coming your way! 🙂

A lot of organic and ayurveda products are available in the market, making it difficult for one to choose and stick to. I recently got hold of “wheat germ rose” natural oil soap. I’ve been using it for some time now and trust me, my skin feels so soft. I regret that I’ve been using such harsh chemicals on my dear skin till now.

My skin is extremely dry and needs a lot of moisturizer during the day for hydration. But after using this organic oil based soap, I realized it was mostly due to the drying soaps and body washes I had been using.

Redolence 1

Redolence Claims:

Wheat germ rose has antioxidant properties, which helps the skin glow by retaining the moisture.

Ingredients:

Redolence 2

Price: INR 249

Weight: 125 gms

Shelf Life: 36 months

Packaging:

The soap comes in a very neat brown cardboard packaging with plastic wrapper. The box has all the required details written on it, including the ingredients, price, and weight.

Online Availability: Facebook page of Redolence

My Review:

The soap is very soft and moist to touch, and only a small amount is enough for a single use. Hence, making it last longer. It has a very soft and natural fragrance of mogra essential oil which fills my washroom with the aroma. The color is natural with small generous pieces of dried rose. It cleanses well, with all the ingredients that are gentle on the skin and completely safe too, suitable even to be used on the face. The soap lathers well, without drying the skin and I would love to buy it again or try new fragrances and ingredients. Their charcoal soap is on my list for now!

Redolence 3

PS – My husband calls it the Choco Chip soap from the way it looks and he may not be wrong 🙂

What works:

  • Gentle on the skin
  • Natural fragrance on essential oils
  • No artificial color
  • Very little require for good amount of lather

What doesn’t:

  • Price could be a little lower
  • Starts to soften if left moist; hence may melt if not used optimally

Rating: 4.8/5

My 12 Best Skin Care Tips & A Bonus Face Pack

Secret to a flawless beauty is to have a good health, to be in shape, to need less makeup, to have an even skin tone and glow. So today I’m going to share 12 of my favorite skin care tips, to keep you looking your best. Try them ( all or any! ) to get that radiance you’ve always wanted.

  1. Every morning, have warm to hot water with lemon and apple cider vinegar to jump-start your digestion.
  2. Without fail use sunscreen on your face and neck every morning and as required, and so far, you would avoid 80% of new spots or wrinkles! Use sunscreen now and every day for the rest of your life.
  3. Break a sweat! Do speed-walks, yoga, swimming or try any sport or find any fitness activity that you really enjoy, and you’ll stick with them for a long haul. I believe fresh air does wonders for the skin, so go for a walk whenever possible.
  4. Eat healthy and you won’t have to count calories – have lots of fresh fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants.Try to incorporate these food items ( whichever suits your food habits, body and skin ) in your everyday diet as they’ll  keep you glowing inside-out : dried apricots, cucumbers, walnuts, avocado, watermelon, oranges, flax seed, chia seed, spinach, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, papaya, sweet potatoes, almonds, chicken, turkey, shellfish, salmon.
  5. Exfoliate your skin twice a week to get rid of all dirt and clogging. It will keep your skin healthy and soft.
  6. Sleep for 7 hours. No amount of makeup or any alternate measure can replace a good sound-sleep.
  7. Rinse your face with lukewarm water all round the year. Use cool (not cold) water if you have rash or redness of any kind. Icy cold water will not help your skin in any ways nor would hot water. It will only dehydrate the skin.
  8. Use Vitamin C rich food and serums. It will benefit your skin humongously!
  9. Always use moisturizer/ body lotion that goes with your skin type after shower or when you take off your makeup. Try to look for a moisturizer that is rich but not greasy. Never ever quit moisturizing. I personally always infuse few drops of oil in my moisturizer, body lotion, face packs, makeup, hair serum 🙂
  10. Drink more water.
  11. Don’t use tons of makeup. Trust me you really don’t need a lot. Just a touch here and there to accentuate your features. And also, do not worry too much about what beauty trends are “In”. I feel it’s more about self-expression in terms of makeup/hair/fashion. Do what makes you feel happy and beautiful!
  12. If you suffer with serious acne/pimples problems then you must cut-off sugar and carbs for a while.

  • Honey – 2 tablespoons
  • Collage 2017-04-19 16_26_31Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon

Coco-Rose Scrub

Hi!! 🙂
How is it going guys! 😉
As a beauty enthusiast I love trying new face packs, scrubs, oils, masks…

So today I’m going to share a very simple DIY luxurious face and body scrub.
l made it to gift my friends..hope they like it 😀

I have named it Coco-Rose Scrub!

It is highly moisturizing as I’m using a non-drying exfoliator – White/Brown sugar crystals prevent moisture loss and gently buffs away dry, dead skin cells while a superior blend of precious oils nourish and moisturize.

This gentle, sugar-based face and body exfoliant hydrates the skin with virgin coconut oil and rose petals. It effortlessly melts onto the skin and helps it look brighter and more even textured revealing smoother and fresher skin.

Coco-Rose scrub gives your skin a subtle glow and fragrance that is neither too heavy nor too floral. It leaves skin silky soft and hydrated with a light scent of coconut and rose petals.

It’s Heaven in a jar!

To make Coco-Rose scrub all you need is..

  • Rose petals – 1 cup
  • Coconut oil – 2 tbs
  • Brown sugar/ white sugar – 3/4th cup
  • Rose essential oil/ rose essence – can skip

Any other oil that you are specially fond of or just skip!

Melt the coconut oil and add rose essence/oil. l have added a few drops of lavender oil as well.

Grind rose petals on a mortar pestle or use any mixer available to you..and of course wash them thoroughly first 😛

Add ground rose petals to the brown sugar (l have used finely granulated because I have a very sensitive skin).

Now put them in the jar and voila you have one awesome scrub!!!

I have used it on my face and it feels like baby’s bottom 😀 and smells like I’m out of a spa! Very relaxing and yummilicious 😀

P.S. You can also try Citrus oils which will help to brighten the skin and along with brown sugar it gives an iconic scent.
