Hydration-Glow Serum

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to share my recipe to make a skin glow-hydration serum. It’s very easy to make and pretty cheap unlike store bought ones. I truly believe that it’s imperative to keep your skin nourished and hydrated to restore skin elasticity and firmness. And facial serums provide lasting hydration with just a teeny-weeny dollop. They are super concentrated and surely are very important step in skincare.

This serum that I’m going to share with you all will help in restoring skin elasticity, repair and rejuvenate the skin leaving it soft, smooth and supple. It will further enhance the skin’s natural ability to hydrate and nourish itself and glow. Gradually it will improve skin tone and texture and tend to eliminate skin imperfections such as wrinkles, fine lines and age spots and discoloration.

Try out this concoction and you’ll see what tough competition it is to store bought expensive serums.

Let’s start with the serum now!

List of Ingredients:

  • Vegetable Glycerin – 1 tb
  • Rose water – 2 tbs
  • Aloe vera gel – 2 tbs
  • Sweet almond oil – 3/4th – 1 tbs

You can use any oil or a combination of oils of your choice depending on what suits your skin and weather conditions.

  • Vit. E capsule – 1

Take a glass/ plastic bowl and mix all of the ingredients together for a minute or two. It will look cloudy white once mixed properly. And you’re done! Secure it in any clean plastic/glass container or in a pump bottle.

Apply this overnight for skin nourishment, hydration and glow in your skin. You can also apply this during day time and before makeup.

I have a dry-normal skin. Hence, I have used a combination of oils ( argan oil, evening primrose oil, castor oil, avocado oil ) that goes with my skin type. I will advise you to make serum in small batches and use. This way you will be able to do your own little experiment with different oils every time and figure out which face oil is right for you, starting slowly with few drops at a time. Also, you can play with the ingredients’ measurement little here and there. No big deal! You can start with what I’ve shared and once you get the feeler, you can customize as per your wishes. 🙂

Here’s brief information on the oils that I’ve mentioned in this blog for the serum.

Argan Oil

Argan oil has high concentration of vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. It’s more stable in sunlight than other antioxidants – so it’s perfect to wear during the day. It is roughly comprised of 80% fatty acids which work wonders to hydrate skin, make healthy membranes, reduce inflammation, and promote healthy collagen. It restores elasticity, and fade fine lines and wrinkles making this another excellent carrier oil for anti-aging serums.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil has a very thick consistency. However, it is one of the healthiest carrier oils for skin. It is rich with vitamins A and E, and is collagen-boosting. It is best to use this oil in combination with other carrier oil. It is ideal for those with dry, itchy/irritated, sensitive or aging skin.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond oil contains large amounts of vitamins E and K. It also is a natural UV blocker, making it ideal for people who are largely exposed in the sun. It also helps skin to regenerate and maintain elasticity, and promote better circulation.

Castor Oil

I have used castor oil exclusively for a brief time, and less is more when we talk about this oil. It’s very thick in consistency but it pretty much dries out your skin. The best way to bring out its wonderful properties is to mix a small amount of castor oil with other thinner oil. It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it ideal for breakout-prone skin. It is high in unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E, proteins, and minerals, and can help heal discoloration and scars from acne.

Evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil is quite effective in reducing hyper-pigmentation, redness on the skin due to any skin condition and lightens the skin naturally. If you are looking for a good moisturizer with a low comedogenic rating, evening primrose oil is a great choice. It nourishes the skin with essential fatty acids leaving a supple, smooth and youthful skin. It does prevent premature aging as it has strong antioxidant properties that help prevent free radical damage on the skin, which in turn helps prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Try it out once and see for yourself how greatly it benefits you! See you guys soon 🙂

My 12 Best Skin Care Tips & A Bonus Face Pack

Secret to a flawless beauty is to have a good health, to be in shape, to need less makeup, to have an even skin tone and glow. So today I’m going to share 12 of my favorite skin care tips, to keep you looking your best. Try them ( all or any! ) to get that radiance you’ve always wanted.

  1. Every morning, have warm to hot water with lemon and apple cider vinegar to jump-start your digestion.
  2. Without fail use sunscreen on your face and neck every morning and as required, and so far, you would avoid 80% of new spots or wrinkles! Use sunscreen now and every day for the rest of your life.
  3. Break a sweat! Do speed-walks, yoga, swimming or try any sport or find any fitness activity that you really enjoy, and you’ll stick with them for a long haul. I believe fresh air does wonders for the skin, so go for a walk whenever possible.
  4. Eat healthy and you won’t have to count calories – have lots of fresh fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants.Try to incorporate these food items ( whichever suits your food habits, body and skin ) in your everyday diet as they’ll  keep you glowing inside-out : dried apricots, cucumbers, walnuts, avocado, watermelon, oranges, flax seed, chia seed, spinach, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, papaya, sweet potatoes, almonds, chicken, turkey, shellfish, salmon.
  5. Exfoliate your skin twice a week to get rid of all dirt and clogging. It will keep your skin healthy and soft.
  6. Sleep for 7 hours. No amount of makeup or any alternate measure can replace a good sound-sleep.
  7. Rinse your face with lukewarm water all round the year. Use cool (not cold) water if you have rash or redness of any kind. Icy cold water will not help your skin in any ways nor would hot water. It will only dehydrate the skin.
  8. Use Vitamin C rich food and serums. It will benefit your skin humongously!
  9. Always use moisturizer/ body lotion that goes with your skin type after shower or when you take off your makeup. Try to look for a moisturizer that is rich but not greasy. Never ever quit moisturizing. I personally always infuse few drops of oil in my moisturizer, body lotion, face packs, makeup, hair serum 🙂
  10. Drink more water.
  11. Don’t use tons of makeup. Trust me you really don’t need a lot. Just a touch here and there to accentuate your features. And also, do not worry too much about what beauty trends are “In”. I feel it’s more about self-expression in terms of makeup/hair/fashion. Do what makes you feel happy and beautiful!
  12. If you suffer with serious acne/pimples problems then you must cut-off sugar and carbs for a while.

And now finally I would like to share a turmeric-based face pack. Its regular use will give you a flawless glowing skin. It will also help you to control acne/pimples.

You’ll need :

  • Honey – 2 tablespoons
  • Collage 2017-04-19 16_26_31Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Coconut milk – 1 teaspoon

Mix all the ingredients into a smooth consistency and apply evenly on clean and dried face. Let it dry for 10 minutes. You can reapply another layer if you want to keep it longer. Rinse face with tepid water and pat dry.

Don’t forget to moisturize! 🙂

I would prefer to use this mask at night, before going to sleep. In the morning you will see how beautiful golden glow your skin has.

Black Beauty – Colorbar’s Just Smoky Kajal (Just Black 001) – Review and Swatch

Hey girls,

Today I’m reviewing a very basic and integral part of our daily makeup routine – kajal pencil. I’ve spent nearly 10 years of my life, since college, in indentifying the kajal that suits me, doesn’t smudge or just vanishes in a while. In the quest of finding the right kajal, I have tried at least 10 brands and haven’t really been satisfied with any.

I recently bought Colorbar’s Just Smoky Kajal  (Just Black 001), and have fallen in love with it. It comes with a soft spongy smudger at the other end of the pencil.

Colorbar Kajal 1

Brand Claims: It is a long-lasting, multi-tasking eye pencil. It is a 3-in-1 pencil, which serves as an Eyeliner, Kajal and an Eye Shadow. It comes with a built-in soft smudger for a smoky eye look.

Price: INR 650

Qty: 1.2  gms

Packaging: The pencil comes in an outer cardboard box, which mentions the ingredients. The pencil inside is a black sharpenable pencil with caps on both ends, one for the pencil and the other for the smudger.

Colorbar Kajal 3

My Review:

This is the most favorite part of my makeup kit. It is creamy matte jet black shade. The pencil glides like butter, on the waterline and lash line alike. It gives a dark, prominent and velvety appearance. I have very shaky hands when it comes to applying an eye liner, but this pencil is so smooth, it makes the task seem so effortless, with no trouble to the eyelids.

The brand claims that it stays the whole day and I have found this to be true. I’m used to rubbing my eyes without thinking about my eye makeup…and this product has been quite handy that ways 🙂 no touch up required during the day. And yes, it’s waterproof..yayyy! 🙂

Colorbar Kajal 4

The smudger at the back is amazing too. A slight smudging of the liner with the cushion sponge provided in the pencil gives subtle expert-like smoky eyes.

A very helpful product for makeup amateurs 😉

What works:

  • Long stay
  • Creamy jet black texture
  • 3-in-1 product
  • Requires just a single application for perfect kohled eyes
  • Easy application

What doesn’t:

  • It needs to be sharpened, hence wastage of the product

Overall Rating: 4.9/5

Love,

Soumya
